Microsoft 365 E5 Security Engineer (Contract)

We’re looking for an experienced Microsoft 365 E5 Security Engineer to join our client in Central London on a part-time contract basis. You’ll play a key role in deploying, tuning, and enforcing Microsoft 365 E5 security capabilities as part of a phased rollout programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide onsite consultancy and hands-on support for Microsoft 365 E5 Security deployment.
- Configure and optimise security controls including RBAC guardrails, telemetry, and consent policies.
- Lead pilot testing and fine-tuning of security features with selected user cohorts.
- Support enforcement of final security controls and handover documentation.
- Collaborate with internal IT and security teams to ensure smooth adoption and knowledge transfer.
Experience Required
- Proven expertise in Microsoft 365 E5 Security, including Defender, Purview, Entra, and related toolsets.
- Strong understanding of RBAC, compliance, identity protection, and endpoint security within M365.
- Ability to work independently onsite and liaise effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Previous experience delivering short-term consultancy or project engagements is highly desirable.
Engagement Phases

Stabilise (Weeks 0–2): RBAC guardrails, consent freeze, define pilots, draft CRs and comms.

Pilot & Tune (Weeks 3–6): Cohort testing, telemetry, exclusions, iterative improvements.

Enforce & Handover (Weeks 7–12): Broaden scope, enforce controls, finalise SOPs and dashboards.
