Your New Role

Joining a vibrant university environment, the Mechanical Maintenance Tradesperson will play an important role in ensuring campus buildings and facilities remain safe, functional, and well maintained for students, staff, and visitors. Working closely with the Maintenance Shift Leaders and reporting to the Building Services Manager, you will carry out a range of mechanical and plumbing maintenance tasks across a large and varied campus.

The role involves responding to maintenance issues, carrying out repairs, completing planned preventative maintenance, and helping to improve the overall condition of the estate. You will work on a rotating Monday to Friday shift pattern, with early shifts starting at 7:00am and late shifts starting at 11:00am, ensuring maintenance support is available throughout the day. Reporting to the Building Services Supervisor or Estates Helpdesk, you will provide updates on ongoing work, prioritise outstanding tasks, and ensure jobs are completed to a high standard. You will also work closely with contractors, maintain accurate maintenance records using the CAFM system, utilise the TREND Building Management System to identify and resolve faults, and help manage stock levels within the plumbing stores. The role requires a proactive approach, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and organised working environment.

To Ensure Your Success

To be successful in this role, you will have previous experience within a mechanical and/or plumbing maintenance environment and a proven track record of delivering a high standard of work. You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, balancing planned maintenance with reactive repairs, and responding effectively to changing priorities.

You will possess strong communication and customer service skills, enabling you to build positive relationships with colleagues, contractors, students, and staff at all levels. A practical and solutions-focused approach, combined with good problem-solving abilities and basic IT skills, will be essential. The ideal candidate will be reliable, flexible, and able to work both independently and as part of a team, always maintaining a professional and positive attitude.

In Return

In addition to a competitive salary and supportive working environment, you will benefit from 27 days annual leave plus additional time off over the Christmas period. The organisation also offers a generous pension scheme, employee wellbeing and counselling services, eye care vouchers, and a wide range of retail discounts covering technology, travel, fashion, and much more. This is an excellent opportunity to join a respected institution that values its employees and offers long-term stability, development opportunities, and a strong team culture.
