Your New Role
As Financial Controller, you will take ownership of the finance function within a well-established SME, acting as a key member of the senior leadership team and reporting directly to the Managing Director. This is a broad, hands-on role where you will oversee all aspects of financial control, reporting and compliance while supporting the wider business with commercial and operational insight. Your responsibilities will include managing the monthly close process, preparing management accounts and financial reports, overseeing budgeting and forecasting, maintaining the fixed asset register, producing cash flow forecasts, bank reconciliations, journals, VAT returns and transfer pricing adjustments. You will also lead the annual audit process, monitor financial risks, manage insurance arrangements, support payroll administration, oversee transactional finance activities and work closely with the Operations Manager on stock valuation, inventory management and profitability analysis. In addition, you will provide financial support for tender submissions, present reports to the Board of Directors, participate in international finance meetings and offer ad hoc commercial support to the Managing Director across a variety of business initiatives.
Ensuring Your Success
To succeed in this role, you will be a qualified or part-qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA or AAT/MAAT) with previous experience in a hands-on finance position, ideally within an SME or subsidiary environment. You will have strong financial reporting, budgeting and financial control skills, along with experience using ERP systems such as Oracle, SAP or similar. Advanced Excel skills are essential, as is the ability to communicate financial information confidently to senior stakeholders. You will be commercially aware, highly organised and comfortable balancing strategic responsibilities with day-to-day financial operations. A proactive, solutions-focused approach, excellent attention to detail and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues will be key to your success.
In Return
In return, you will have the opportunity to join a supportive and professional business where your contribution will have a genuine impact. This senior position offers a varied and rewarding workload, significant autonomy and the chance to work closely with the Managing Director while influencing business performance. You'll become part of a collaborative team culture with opportunities to engage in international finance discussions and develop your career within a globally established organisation that values professionalism, diversity and inclusion.
