Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced PCB First Article / In-Process Quality Inspector to join our Quality Assurance team. This role is responsible for performing thorough inspections of printed circuit boards (PCBs) during key stages of the manufacturing process, with a focus on first article inspection (FAI), in-process verification, and adherence to customer specifications and IPC standards. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of PCB fabrication processes and strong inspection and documentation skills.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Perform first article inspections (FAI) on PCBs to validate conformance to customer drawings, specifications, and internal requirements before full production.
- Conduct in-process inspections at various manufacturing stages (e.g., inner layer, lamination, drilling, plating, imaging, AOI, etching, final inspection).
- Verify critical dimensions, hole sizes, layer alignments, and other key attributes using calibrated measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, microscopes, AOI).
- Review manufacturing job packs, job documentation, and customer drawings to ensure all requirements are met.
- Document inspection findings, generate FAI reports, and communicate non-conformances to production and engineering teams.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (RCA/CAPA) for quality issues.
- Assist with training operators on quality standards and inspection procedures as needed.
- Maintain inspection records in accordance with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100).

Requirements and skills:
Essential:
- Conversational level of verbal communication skills in English.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical diploma or training in electronics or manufacturing a plus.
- 2+ years of experience in PCB manufacturing quality inspection or a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of IPC standards (e.g. IPC-A-600, IPC-6012, etc.).
- Familiarity with PCB fabrication processes and common defects.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication specs, and job packs.
- Proficient in using inspection tools and gauges (calipers, micrometers, microscopes).
- Experience with AS9102 FAI documentation.
- Attention to detail, excellent documentation, and communication skills.
- Comfortable working in a cleanroom or controlled manufacturing environment.
Desirable:
- IPC-A-600 or other relevant certification.
- Basic understanding of statistical process control (SPC) and quality data analysis.
- Working knowledge of ERP or quality management systems.

Pay: £13.00-£14.50 per hour
